"Nautilus- the living fossil"
Nautilus is the sole survivor of an ancient line of molluscs, a group that includes snails, mussels and octopuses. It has a handsome, glistening, coiled shell from 10 to 27 cm in size. Nautilus lives in the mid-depths of oceans, feeding on crab and carrion. From time to time, it floats around, buoyed by its gas filled shell. Today there are just six, very similar species of Nautilus restricted to the Indo-Pacific.
